Letter Of Intent (LOI)

A document signed by an investor when purchasing shares of a mutual fund. It indicates the investor’s intention to invest enough during the coming 13 months to reach a breakpoint and thereby receive a reduced sales charge. The letter of intent may be backdated a maximum of 90 days. See also: Breakpoint.
